I'm so grateful I got to see him perform twice in the 1980s at the most perfect small venue. Once with just a tuba player, once with a piano player. I was so sad when he passed, for his family and for all of us devoted fans. This is one of my favorite songs of his.

Funny thing, no one ever saw Leon Redbone and Frank Zappa on the same stage at the same time……..

Got hooked on LR when he came on SNL back in the 70s, the performance where it was just him beneath a single light. That really got my attention, at the time I was listening to Boston, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Led Zeppelin, etc. Can't find that segment on UA-cam. Got to see him in person one time when he made a stop in Baton Rouge in the late 90s.

At the tender age of 13, I was introduced to. What would become addiction to MR . REDBONE and a return to the tunes of my youth . The songs strummed ,and sang by my old folk friends and relatives. Still to this day I can drop a jaw , doing an imitation of MR. REDBONE'S voice an music . Listen to his VYNL often ....sorry I talked about you while your gone sir 😉

Thee one, thee only Leon Redbone. There is no replacement, no substitute.

While teaching Intro to Art at the University of Tampa about 10 years ago, I dressed like Leon, brought my walking stick, put this on the computer speaker system, and strutted around the classroom. 😂

Leon didn't die, he just went back to 1920. We miss you.

Mr. Redbone was unique, with a special style and that made him standout.

Whoever enjoyed this (how could anyone not enjoy it?) you'll see he was ready to play another song. That song was his version of 'My Melancholy Baby'. You think this was great? Find the you tube video of 'My Melancholy Baby'. The audience was going crazy by the end!

He performed this on SNL season 8 episode 15, host was Bruce Dern. My copy looks and sounds awful but allegedly NBC is rereleasing the original masters of all their episodes.
